ACL in Copy to Area
boninba
Hi, in ts 5.5.2, does the "Copy to Area" works like the older version ? Today our customer fired that command from an Editor workarea to an Author one copying some folders with new imported images. The operation was completed but the author is not allowed to open those folders (Directory security shows that the permission are owned by the editor, by the group of sharing of the workarea and by the TS Web Preview but the "Allowed inheritable...." check is not cheched).
It looks like a bug......

Paolo

But does the author, or a group he/she is in, have access to the directories? Try adding the user's specific account to the directories and the files in them, and see if that fixes the problem.

I've seen something like this before. When we do a 'copy to area' on *new* directories the directories end up in the target workarea but the permissions aren't correct.
We 'fix' directory permissions via the submit.cfg file. When a file/directory is submitted we set the group id to the user's default group (we rely on the group ownership of the branch not the files within it for security) and the directory permission to '775'. This will allow all users who have permission in the target branch to work with the new directory.
However, all of the permissions aren't fixed until the freshly copied directory has been submitted to STAGING, so we had to train a few of our power users (who are the ones usually using 'copy to area' and creating new directories anyhow) to submit the new directories.
So our two part solution:
1 - setting up submit.cfg correctly
2 - having our users submit the new directories
We are on Solaris so your results may vary on Windows.

Hi Bob,
If I add the user (that is the owner of the workarea) everything work fine, but when I fire another copy to Area the ACL are again resetted in the wrong way.....
That is good just for one time.
Today we have uninstalled the SP1 but nothing is changed.
