NewProf.nrs – Capturing the document number of a newly profiled document .i.e first s

I am trying to return the document number of a newly profiled document as it is saved into worksite from msword. I have been using the following code,
Sub NewProfileCmd_PostOnOK(obj)

obj.GetAttributeByID(imProfileDocNum)

End Sub
however the number returned is blank assuming that the number has not been created at the time this event is processed. Can anyone point me in the right direction of which script would be best to run and on what event to capture this new document number.

From memory, if you are in EAI mode you need to create a sink for the OnIManFileSave event, which is part of the iManageExtensibility library (i.e. IManO2K, IManOXP DLLs).

This event exposes as a parameter the IManFileSaveCmd which in turn allows you to capture the command's PostOnOK event.

The PostOnOK event exposes as a parameter the IManFileSaveDlg entity which exposes a property of "NewDocument".

NewDocument is an IManDocument representing the new document you just saved. You can access all the IManDocument properties from there, such as Number or Version

Just noticed from your original post that you seem to be using the NewProfileCmd (i.e. the "classic" mode dialogs that aren't matter centric).

If that's the case, you do the same as my previous instructions but substitute IManFileSaveCmd for NewProfileCmd, and IManFileSaveDlg for NewProfileDlg

NewProfileDlg exposes an NRTDocument property

In script, whether it's NewProfile.nrs or FileSave.nrs, simply get a handle to the new document object to get its docnum and ver from within the PostOnOK Event, like so:

You cannot get the imported document number and version until it's uploaded with its file to the server. The dialog is used for collecting user input for the profile, but docnum/ver isn't part of that input. Rather, it is generated by the server, which means you would need to wait till the profile values are sent to the server and that the server could now complete the imported document and assign it number/version. The PostOnOK is then the earliest possible time for you to retrieve the server-generated document number/ver, and must be obtained through the document object.

FYI: I managed to get the New DocNumber using the NewProfile.nrs script, however I could not get the version (but this will be 1). It seems Version is a late-bound property of the IManDocument object requiring the server to return a value. I can’t get it here - not important for what I need to do.

Since this is scripting, i.e., vbs, the object interface is always late-bound. That error indicates that somehow it is not aware of the variable, ver, you have declared for holding the returned value from the Verison Property. You may want to just try deleting the declared statement and rewrite it. Sometimes, scripting is kludgy with whitespaces.

I tested it and it worked fine for both Number and Version Propeties.
