Obtaining attribute values for custom fields

Is it possible to use the API to retrieve a list of attribute values for a custom field in FileSite / Desksite 8.2?

We have an Outlook client app (C# WinForm) where we would like to present a combo-box of valid responses for a custom field in a Worksite database.

It appears easy enough to use an SQL adapter and a select query the Custom* tables on the database level to obtain the values, but we would rather handle this through the API obviously.

Any light that can be shed on how to accomplish this would be most appreciated.

You can use the imanage.dll to call SearchCustomAttributes (IManDatabase) to return all the attribute objects (entries) belonging to a specified field/table. For additional details, see COM Object for WorkSite Developer's Reference Manual.pdf: Introduction: Component Object Model for WorkSite 8.2: IManDatabase Object: Search Methods for the IManDatabase Object. Example code is on page 111.

This manual is distributed with the WorkSite iToolkit SDK, and it's stored in the iHelp folder under the installed path.
