iwcmp CLT understanding

Hi Guys,

Sorry. I tried spending 3hrs time on understanding the below CLT output, however I couldn't come to a concrete solution on it. Smiley Sad

Appreciate your inputs on the same

I perform
/opt/iw-home/bin/iwcmp -z ed_20080730 ed_20080829

the output is
f x+ regions/publicjsp/as/specials/cn/earlyBirdAustralia_R1.jsp
- x agentsPdf/publicjsp/auth/info/pdf/brochurePricing0809/AsiaPricingGrid.pdf
x f+ http/infodetail/paris.pdf

Basically my objective is to pull out the list of files that has been delted for the period between 30th July 08 to 29th Aug 08.

Do I need to consider outputs with
f x+ regions/publicjsp/as/specials/cn/earlyBirdAustralia_R1.jsp
and
x f+ http/infodetail/paris.pdf

OR

what is the exact lists that needs to be pulled out?

Of course it's a lot easier to verify these summations if one can verify the interpretation against the actual contents of the editions - thus the above is a guess.

you must have the weirdest version of the manual, cause mine (ts.650a.clt.unix.pdf) explains all that...

btw, is that the full command you quoted? because the arguments are supposed to be full VPATH's, not simple area/edition names (?)

btw, Ghoti, I think you got it almost right, but just reversed it. You probably got confused by the fact that the 29th and the 30th were in diff months ;-)

e.g.
earlyBirdAusrailia_R1.jsp was a submitted file in the 1st area (20080730), and is a deleted file in the 2nd area (20080829).

And I'm a bit puzzled by the "+" in the results. If these were really editions (as suggested by the names), then I would not expect "+", which means "modified".

huh... maybe there is something missing from my manual after all :-?

As Frederick indicated - I missed the fact that the '30' was in July and the '29' was in August - I misread it as having the older edition after the newer edition (which I think is the wrong way to do it) - so your arguments were in the correct order (but again as Frederick indicated - those should be vpaths - I'm assuming you either stripped the pathing out or were sitting in the EDITIONS directory when you ran the command).

Based on this:

f       x+      regions/publicjsp/as/specials/cn/earlyBirdAustralia_R1.jsp 
-       x       agentsPdf/publicjsp/auth/info/pdf/brochurePricing0809/AsiaPricingGrid.pdf

I'd guess:

Here I agree with Frederick that the existence of a '+' in either column when comparing editions is rather confusing - are you sure these are two editions you're comparing?You might check with Support to see if they can explain the '+' in the output when comparing editions (and then let us know what they say)

I just compared 2 editions (TS 6.5 sp2, Sol9), and I also got plenty of these codes:

-       d
-       f
d       x+
f       f+
f       x+

So I guess the plus (for edition comparing) means that there are 2 different versions. The only time I don't have the +, is when I have a - (no file yet)

btw, if your goal is to get a list of modified files, you will want to pay special attention to

-       d        NEW DIRECTORY
d       x+       DELETED DIRECTORY

You'll want to read out those directories, if you want to treat every file in it...

Yeah, not entirely what I expected from RTFM ;-)

Thank you for the reponse.
At the EOD I was able to nail down and came to a conclusion that,
a file with

f x+ somefilename.txt
is considered to be a deleted file while comparing editions. I am so confident om this because my business was happy with the list of file I projected to them based on my assumption.

Request you to provide me a feedback if my understanding is wrong.
