Search DCR and database

Hello experts,
I need some information on search functionality in Teamsite. I have a requirement from client to search in DCR and also across database where we store the content and metadata. I have to search for a keyword and against DCR filed value. I know about the TS OOB search functionality which allows us to search keyword and fields.
I would like to know is there any way TS also searches in DB, if we provide it DB schema (or table names to search in). If not, for DB searching I have to go with the custom search. Is there any way I can integrate custom search with TS search, so that I can have both functionality under one page.
Or any better approach to achieve this?
I am trying to find out the feasibility and efforts required for this development.
Any suggestion/inputs on this is appreciated.

Env: Teamsite 6.5 on windows server 2003

You can achieve this using custom search.

Custom search can be achieved by using the UI customization tab, External script, TS Search.
Add tab as Search in Team site. In External CGI script use Team site search commands and as well DB Retrieval process.

As per my understanding Jagadesh is talking about TS Customization guide. So you should go through "TeamSite User Interface Customization Guide" that will help in customization of TS functionality. But AFAIK there is no any example given regarding Search functionality customization. But with the help of available examples you will get the pointers. Hope this will helps.

Use CLT commands in your external script to search value in TS or DBI modules for DB Search.

Steps for the solution:
Add tab/link as Search in TS using customization guide.
Implement the external script for Search functionality, invoked from while clicking on search.
The external script will contain the logic for TS search and DB search.

Depends on your requirement you can customize the Search script and UI.

We have done the same implementation in our past project for Expired content search and report generartion

If I understand than you are looking for indexing DCR&DB data through TS Search. If yes then in TS6.5/Search 1.0 I dont see such option. However you can use TS Search for DCR files and develeop a customizable Search module for DB data and add link as a Tab in TS UI.

Hi jagadesh,
I tried to search in the PDF, but did not get enough detail there.
I got to know that, I can use command 'iwsrchquery' providing a queryStrFile to it. This file has a XML syntax providing the string to be matched. Because of the time constraint, before I go on some hands on it, I would like to know if things are possible that I m trying to achieve.
I would like to know, how can we search on a particular field in a DCT from command line?
Also, if any range has to be search. For e.g. Create date between 13-Jan-2009 to 13-May-2009?

Any pointers here are really appreciated.

You can search date rage between as well in the DCR at AREA. Can you please check the BaseQueryLanguage.xsd and FullTextQueryElements.xsd.

iwsrchquery [-f queryStrFile] userID pageSize branchpath areapath
queryStrFile- need to have the TSSearch query format and the value you are going to search.
