Archiving TeamSite content to Smarsh Vantage (or other content sys)

Hi,

I know there are a number of other companies doing this, so wanted to post this query here:

We are busy migrating our content out of the legacy TeamSite system to other content systems, but for some of the content we need to retain old file versions for audit purposes. Is there any content system that lends itself to download TeamSite content with versioning into its repository? We are particularly thinking about Smarsh Vantage, which we have.

Failing that I am thinking about writing a script to go through each TS branch and extract versions for every file utilising the iwrlog CLT, and write files to a [filename]_ccyymmdd_hhmmss.ext nomenclature (or similar) for placement into another system, even if it just a zip on a (large) drive. Could estimate size before running. Can anyone think of a better approach?

An update here, as I don't think I can change the title. Smarsh Vantage is not suitable, so we are looking at using a proper file versioning tool like Bitbucket, Git, SVN etc to archive our TeamSite content with versioning. Has anyone had experience in moving to any of these?

I have already written a script that extracts file versions from TS as [filename]_ccyymmdd_hhmmss.ext (I can soon change that to whichever naming convention is best), so now we are just looking for the best file versioning tool to ingest these into for safekeeping.
