For .docx format(Office 2007), I don't think so, because of changed formatting and security issues, but for .doc, yes you can. To save a file as a word document, just change the extension of the output file to '.doc' in your tpl and it can be opened within MS-Word. However, there *maybe* some concerns like the formatting of text, adding/placement of images/tables etc. I haven't tried all this except for simple text output, so you probably have to experiment on it yourself.

In the process of generating an html, you have to specify a name for the output file which includes its extension. You can do it either using the UI while generating the page or in the tpl code if you're specifying output file name in your TPL itself(the way I do it).
If you just specify the output file name as XXXX.doc, it will generate a .doc file! That isn't so hard to understand I guess!

Secondly, make sure that in templating.cfg, .doc is an allowed extension for that datatype.

As for making the text bold or whatever, I already said I haven't tried it. You'd have to experiment on it yourself.

As far as I know, TS Perl distribution does not contain any MS Word modules. You can try to use generic Win32: Smiley Surprised

MS-Word can read both binary and this ASCII file too. And as I already mentioned I tried it just for simple text. For formatting features though, he'd have to look out for some module and experiment, as you correctly pointed out.

I'm not sure what the point would be in writing out a plain ascii file to be read by Word.
Frankly, I'm not sure what the point would be in generating a well formatted Word document for a web site (if this is, in fact, for a web site) - as opposed to say a PDF.
That being said, having just done a quick search on search.cpan.org - it looks like Win32::Word::Writer might be a good module to download and play with.
