Search Index and TeamSite crash

TS 6.5.2
Solaris 9

We are using TeamSite search on a separate machine form our TeamSite server. Every time we start to index a big branch the TeamSite server crashes. I think that the search indexing is related to the TeamSite crash. However, the whole idea of having the search server on a different machine was to avoid these types of issues.

Has anyone experienced this?

Here's what I'm thinking is going on.

TeamSite Search Index is accessing files through the webdaemon. The Search index is accessing multiple files at a time by multi-threading. This is overloading the webdaemon and causing it to crash.

Can someone help correct my logic?

Hi Brain,

The search server never contacts the Teamsite server, it's the index server which does the collections.

Search and Index are 2 separate services, the index server contacts the Event sub system which has the records of all the submitted contents in your work area and it makes a collection of the indexes.

The Search uses these indexes for File search or Meta data Search.

It is like ,in the Content Center UI the Search link contacts the Search Server and the Search Server is dependent on the Index Server and the Index Server is dependent on the Event Subsystem.

It is nowhere that the Search contact the Teamsite for the results.

I understand that the search server does not contact the TeamSite server. It is the indexing that is causing our TeamSite server to crash.

We are reindexing a very large branch and every time we start the index within a day our TeamSite Server crashes. Could the event sub-system be getting overloaded?

Also, this is a reindex of an entire branch.

Any thoughts on how the indexing could cause the TeamSite server to crash?

Could you please provide us about the Event subsytem configuration in IWHOME\eventsubsystem\conf\jmsconfignew.xml and size of openjms.db file on both TS server?

hi brain,

I believe you are not using the normal flat file system for the event sub system,
To debug the cash, I suggest you to do the below things.
Have a case opened with Interwoven Support and provide them, the core dump , Dr waston logs, pstack o/p on the iw.server process, and also the index log.

Yes, of course the event sub system can make the teamsite Slow, make sure you have the Database configured with the Event Sub system.
