Adobe Graphics Server and MB?

Hi,

For the fresh new installation of MEDIABIN SERVER 4.6.2, do we need to buy ADOBE GRAPHICS SERVER separately?

There is not much clear notes about ADOBE GRAPHICS SERVER on the release notes of MB 4.6.2 and in the installation guide they have mentioned AGS as "required for upgrades".

Please guide.

I've installed Mediabin a long time ago, but I don't remember ever having to install Adobe Graphics Server.

AFAIK, Adobe has EOL'ed AGS. So MB ported some (or may be all, not sure) of the functionality that was made available via AGS to MB.

If you have existing tasks that use AGS you might want to contact support to see how they can be replaced in MB 4.6.2

Thanks for the quick responses. I couldn't find much details about AGS in the installation guide - there is no step in 4.6.2 to install the AGS.

AGS is listed under "Applications Which Must Be Purchased Separately" in the installation guide!

Have anyone come across the issues with AGS in MB 4.6.2?

May be you did not read my response correctly or understand it. Adobe is not selling AGS anymore. So even if you want to buy it you won't be able to.

As far as the doc is concerned I think they haven't revised it to reflect the status of AGS.

I have installed multiple MB 4.6.2 installations without AGS. I have installed many prior with AGS. As of 4.6.2 you don't need AGS.

If you have existing tasks that use AGS you might want to contact support to see how they can be replaced in MB 4.6.2

We are using mediabin with AGS for the purpose of making EPS's background transparent, trim jpeg while converting eps to jpeg etc. There is an AGS command which allows us to do same Photoshop activities. I think you can get AGS installation manual, if you refer mediabin doc ver less than 4.6.1.
As mentioned above adobe discounted AGS, you can’t buy it now. I don’t know the alternative AGS(flipfactory?) which mediabin supports. If anyone knows, please some information.

Can anybody tell me how to retrieve the asset with transperent?

iam using getPreview() method to get asset's preview. It returns byte array with JPEG format. here i lost image background transperent.

If you retrieve a file as PNG or use the color converter to convert to IndexedRGB and output s PNG or GIF, transparency should be preserved. The ability to convert from transparency based on an alpha channel to transparency as support in GIF by means of a transparent "color" is new to 4.6.2 and is one of the extensions to help offset the unavailability of AGS.
