Mass upload to Documentum

Hi,

It's required that a client (remote machine) do mass-upload to Documentum, by filling excel sheet of the local files and their meta-data, to be imported to Documentum.

What do you think the best practice: DFC - DFS - rest apis

and if considering DFS or DFC, what's the best transfer protocol:

MTOM - UCF - ftp - http

Please advise.

DFC is going to be fastest. Before trying to write your own app, I would google. There are plenty of Documentum migration utilities that can do what you just described.

Thank you @DCTM_Guru .. But what about clients connecting thru vpn, will the DFC be efficient enough ? or should i consider the other protocols ?

Any connection through VPN is going to slower no matter if you write it in DFC or DFS. DFC is much faster than DFS, b/c its native java code. DFS is more flexible, but comes at slight performance cost. It may not be significant for single operation, but multiple that over hundreds of thousands of objects, and you will notice the difference.

DFC performance is strongly impacted by latency because it's using a quite chatty RPC-based protocol. In particular, content transfer is not very efficient over such high latency connections. In general it is recommended to perform mass uploads as close to the server as possible (on the server being the fastest option). What you choose depends on your use-case: what volume?, how often do you need to do this?, are end-users going to wait for the upload to complete or is it a back-end process?

Thanks @bacham3 .. Actually we're doing client-side investigations to check on the use-case.

I'll get back to you about the specific requirements, to have more insights.
