Dynamic Documents

Hi Experts,
We are doing an analysis for a new project with Dynamic documents. So we have come across following scenario. I wanted to know whether the followings are possible in Interwoven related tool. (It is ok to use any version on any platform overhear)
1. There are some document templates available with some place holders. Is there a way to replace this place holders with some content and create documents such as PDF or Word?
2. Let's assume we have some data records in DB and is there any tool available to read and assemble these data and create a document such as PDF of Word?
