Please let me know whether the metadata search works in webtop without xplore server setup(Primary Dsearch/Index Agent)
Yes. Metadata search works with out xPlore. In simple search, only subject, title and object name attributes will be searchable. But in advanced search, you can select few more attributes for performing metadata search.
@Suganya Baskar - xplore was added to Documentum such that you dont have to explicitly which attributes you want to search against in your query. Its also much faster than doing database search when you have millions of rows to search against.

As Hari stated, simple search OOTB will search on those three metadata fields listed. If you want to add more metadata fields, you will need to customize the simple search component and update the search DQL yourself.
