Special characters in label of Select not displayed correctly

illusions

Hi,

I am having problems with displaying special characters (from different languages like German, French, ....) in the labels of select dropdown values. The labels are picked from an xml file which is of an UTF-8 encoding, in the xml they are shown properly but i cant understand why they become into square box when they are used in the label of a select dropdown.
i have tried the following:
1) $title = Encode::encode_utf8($title);
2) my $str1 = decode("iso-8859-1",$title );
$title = encode("utf-8",$str1);
3) $title = encode("iso-8859-1", decode("utf8", $title ));
4) Opened datacapture.cfg in notepad and saved it as UTF-8

The results are not satisfied some are breaking the code and some are inserting "?" or "square boxes" instead of special characters.
few examples of Speacial characters are (ä , ü , ö , à , é , etc.....)

Server details :
TS 6.7.1
OS : Unix

Any suggestions would be of great help...

Thanks in advance...

Frederik

so is there an < inline > running, from the DCT? did you make sure the output of the inline script is UTF-8?
In Perl, this would look like this (but replace { } by < > ) The typical mistake is to forget the binmode statement.

binmode STDOUT, ":utf8";
print "{?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\"? }\n";
print "{substitution}\n";
# more prints
print "{ /substitution}\n";
