OD on LINUX

Hi,

Is it possible to do the cross platform deployment?

like i have OD base on UNIX and OD receiver on LINUX.
is it possible to deploy? if yes , do i need to do any extra configuration settings ?

also, is there any installation manual available for OD installation on LINUX platform..?

Deploying from any supported OD platform to any other supported OD platform is ... well .... supported. No extra configuration settings should be needed based on platform, however keep in mind that Windows systems are case-insensitive and Unix systems (Solaris/Linux) are case-sensitive (this can sometimes cause problems with true cross-platform deployments).

In your case, Solaris (I'm assuming that's what you mean by "UNIX") and Linux are both variants of the same platform (Unix) and tends to be pretty trivial.

I believe there is only one set of documents for OD and, where needed, they distinguish between systems as simply "Windows" or "Unix". If there is need for further distinction (for Linux or whatever), then I believe that will still be taken care of within a single document rather than having a separate document just for Linux.

You can deploys files anywhere to and from OD installation Servers.One point you should consider here. YOu should install proper OD(OS Support).

If you deploy from Linux to Windows with files that have extended attributes, will the extended attributes be deployed too?

External attributes for files never gets deployed in any OD deployments any cross platform servers.

You will have to configure datadeploy to actually read the metadata/external attributes of the Teamsite content/asset and deploy to a database and then use them if application requires.

Perhaps you misread / misunderstood the question?

Although I haven't had to do this, if you enable the sending / receiving of EAs within the server / deployment configuration files, I see no reason why this shouldn't work if you're going across platforms - and I see nothing in the manuals to indicate that it would not work across platforms.

This assumes that you are deploying from a TS server on one platform to another TS server on the other platform.

As Adams point, You should consider the below two points here on deployment
1. Deployment Teamsite to Teamsite
2. Deployment Teamsite or FileSystem to Application server or Filesystem

In the first option you can configure to copy external attributes as well.
In the second option wont possible to copy external attributes, if the traget is application server then u can use DB to store External attributes.

Implement the logic in application end to fetch values from DB

The primary problem when deploying from Windows to Unix (or more importantly, Unix to Windows) has to do with filename conflicts. E.g.: On Unix you might have three distinct files sitting in the same directory named:

However,since Windows is case-insensitive, all three of those filenames refer to the same (one) file on Windows. Conversely, if you deploy "somefile.html" from Windows to Unix and you have those three variants of the file (listed above) on the target system, it may be ambiguous as to which of those three files the source file is intended to replace.If you're just dealing with a one-to-one filename match-up, there should be no problem deploying the file in either direction - and I don't see any reason why the transfer of EAs should cause a problem (it might, but I don't see any reason for it to do so).I don't know what that KB article says - but if you have an environment with both Windows and Unix TS servers (I don't have such an environment) - it should be pretty easy to test this out yourself and then you can update this thread with what you find out.
