Not able to call a cgi file from js using formapi functions

hi,

In teamsite 5.5 ,I have written a js code which is calling a cgi file

js code:

var server = window.location.hostname;
params.contype = parent.gTDT;
params.workarea = parent.gWorkarea;
IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi/bt_content_search.cgi", params);

my cgi file is not getting called. When i am putting an alert in 4th line(i.e IWDatacapture.callServer) ,it is giving undefined.

Can somebody suggest where i am wrong.

1st recheck your TS version. FormAPI in 5.5 was limited and if that is truly what you are using, you are doing it wrong. I know cgi_wrapper is 6.X only.

iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi was in 5.x too - wdpro_menu.ipl was added in 6.x.

but still it is not working...

iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi is there in teamsite 5.5

i have tried calling both ipl and cgi files in my js in following ways

1) IWDatacapture.callServer('/iw-bin/eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.ipl',param,true);

2) IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/iw-bin/bt_content_view.ipl", params,true)

3)IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/iw-bin/eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.cgi", params,true);

4)IWDatacapture.callServer("http://"+server+"/iw-bin/iw_cgi_wrapper.cgi/eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.cgi", params)

5)IWDatacapture.callServer("/iw-bin/eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.cgi", params,true)

but none of them is working.

I have placed my eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.cgi ,
eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.ipl

in
iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/bt_content_view.ipl
iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.cgi

please give a solution to this i am stuck in this

eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.ipl

in
iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/bt_content_view.ipl
iw-home/httpd/iw-bin/eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.cgi

and these script files are executable for all users?

In the above code - you defined 'var server' - but you did not seem to define 'params'
Have you verified that bt_content_search.cgi (or any of your .ipl variants) are compile-able code? - i.e.: iwperl -w -c scriptname
When you say you put an alert in 4th line - do you mean you put an alert before, or after the 4th line? And what is your alert attempting to display?

I have define params in my js code

I tried calling perl file lie this:
IWDatacapture.callServer("/iw-bin/bt_content_search.ipl",params);

and checked my ipl file as you suggested.
syntax is ok.
to check in my ipl file i am creating a log file .that log file is not getting created.
this means that my ipl is not getting called.
But why. Is there some issue with TS 5.5

Variant of your #5 Syntax is what I would try to troubleshoot if I were you. Note an absence of 'isGet' parameter. So:
IWDatacapture.callServer("/iw-bin/eim_autogenerate_dcr_name.cgi", params);

First of all, run your Perl script separately from CLT. Make sure that it logs "I've been called!" initial message, no matter
what happens after that, errors and all. When you are reasonably sure that you can detect code execution, run it from DCR and
check the Log.

If code has been invoked - you have a problem within your CGI. If it has not been, chances are that you have some issues
interpreting your Perl/CGI. Note that this stuff differs between Windows and Unix, especially before TS 6.X ( Honoring
shebang on Windows and the like ). Therefore, few questions: What is your OS? How exactly did you create a CGI File? Is
it just a renamed Perl copy?
