Way to retrieve the name of the branch from component level

Hi All,
I am working on the following requirement,
when a component is added in the Page then it should be automatically able to know in which branch it is.
I am using "iw-ls-page-name" token but it is retrieving the path just after the Branch Name but not the branch name.
Kindly suggest if there is any way to retrieve the name of the branch from component level.

What's the reason for accessing the branch name? Keep in mind that there is no branch concept in LS Runtime if you are going to be deploying it to LS Runtime that is.

Look at the RequestContext class in LS API doc -- there is a getSite method. From there you can get the site name or site directory with appropriate methods.

Thanks, I found the LS API Doc and tried to implement the solution, but it is still throwing an error, I think RequestContext is an interface and it is not allowing to directly call the method getSite.
Can you please suggest what could be the possible way to call the getSite method from the component or is there any other class that works in the same way and can be called directly.

You canNOT do this because RequestContext is an interface for one. For two, getSite will return a Java object while the payload for any component is XML and not a Java object.

Write your own custom External and retrieve the Site in there and return the site name in some XML format back to the component. If you aren't aware of how to write Externals - SP dev guide has some samples.
