'/n' character inserted automatically in callout string

Hi,
I have a custom button in VFF. It calls a CGI, which has a option to select values from a drop down. User can select multiple times and populate a text box. After that user clicks on the OK button on CGI window, it saves string back to the VFF in DCT. It looks fine through DCT, but if I checked from back end, the strings has newline character inserted at random. So, one line string is written on multiple lines. Also, this behavior is random. It is not that, it is occurring after a set of characters.
The javascript in callout is returning the value with
window.returnValue = str;
Anything particular where I can look in to it..

Env: TS 6.5 SP3 on windows server 2003

Chances are, you have stray EOLs in some of the original drop-down Values. I've seen that before with the "select"
built out of some CLT command(s) output that people forget to "chomp". If that's not your case - add logging to your
CGI and log-out debugging data every step of the way.
