Hello Everyone,

I have a business request to display differences in TeamSite pages when they are submitted for publishing by highlighting or some other emphasis. Does anyone know if this is even possible and if so how would I go about doing it?

Look into IWOV "Visual Annotate" Product, see if it can satisfy your Client needs. That mechanism allows Content
Contributors to "annotate" performed changes (or anything else for that matter). Highlighting is just one of the
annotation Tools.

Are you talking about marking up a page (as per Boris' interpretation) or are you talking about a Visual Diff with some form of highlighting on the actual differences?

Visual Diff already exists - but the highlighting part is not OOTB functionality, and could be quite difficult to implement (consider that not all code differences are visual differences, so somehow injecting highlighting code into the HTML stream could end up with very undesirable effects).

I'm not even sure such a product exists (if it does, I doubt it's inexpensive - if it doesn't and you can develop it - you can probably make some nice income from it)

I was talking about highlighting Visual Diff. I agree that it sounds very complex, but was just wondering if there was any OOTB functionality. Thanks for the insight.

You must be joking.
First of all, I don't think that code is available for field manipulation.
Secondly, as I pointed out previously, trying to figure out how to highlight visual differences without incorrectly highlighting non-visible (code-only) differences and without **** up the entire page layout is a far-from-trivial task.

Consider the "easy" case:

This is a test

This is a new test

Here you might try to insert some code like:

This is a new test

Or even a more ambitious:

This is a new test

But what do you do when someone inserts the following into the page contents:

Or even more nefarious changes:

P1
P2

to:

P1P2

There are countless other examples that could be made - but the short of it is that unless you figure out how to build "intelligence" into diff / parsing code and ensure that whatever you do to highlight the item does not modify the page layout (a single border around a paragraph in a tightly organized CSS layout could force whatever follows it into a completely different location on the page) -- you're going to end up being worse-off than not having any highlighting.

Others have suggested author notes or annotations but authors are notoriously bad at annotating or describing changes, and sometime don't even realize all the changes they have made.

How *should* it work ? Think about HTML, how can you do it ? The changes may or may not be visible at all. TS can put two versions side by side, or show a source code difference, or allow a person to annotate the change, but there is really no way to automagically markup the HTML.

What if the change is JS ? There are 100 examples that may or may not be visible in the browser.
