Not publishing with latest Staging area

I am trying to publish Edition through workflow from staging. First I am submiting the WA to the Staging using External Task, I wrote perl script to submit usind iwsubmit CLT. After success of Submit External Tast it has to Publish based on Staging . It is publishing edition but not with latest Staging area , it is taking previous staging area.

I tried with dummy task between two task by giving time delay about 5 min. then also same problem.

Instead of submitting by externaltask, why are you not using a submittask? Perhaps your submits are failing and you have no error handling in place.

Submit is working fine. Its updating Staging. Every time it publishing edition based on previous staging area. I have to change my areavpath dynamically. Becuase in my WF it has to submit to the staging in different branches and different sub branches. Thats why i used external task to change area.

You submit to STAGING from different branches? There is only one STAGING area per branch. Are you sure you're using the correct nomenclature? Perhaps you can list the exact steps you're taking, including your area names for each submission, all the way through your attempt to publish. Show us your exact calls to iwsubmit and iwpublish. You may be trying to do something you cannot do.

Looks normal enough, although your scripting is a little inefficient. So you're saying that the submissions all work fine and all new editions get published, but the new editions don't contain the updated files in STAGING. That is bizarre.

yes, If I run 3 times workflow, suppose staging updated 3 times

Staging one (edition 1 with no data) (staging one means update first time )
Staging two (edition2 with staging 1 data)
staging three (edition3 with staging 2 data)

Not sure if this will help but let's try testing it in all possible ways. What if you try submitting only one file with this workflow? Does it encounter the same error?

I am assuming it could be something to do with the speed of execution of the script. Maybe the content is not in STAGING at the time of EDITION creation.

It took me a bit of time to parse the code - but it *looks* like it should do the right thing.

Suggestions:
(1) open a debugging file and insert the command that was run.
(2) capture the output of the command being run - both stdout and stderr, and put that into the debugging log too.

I.e.:

It published edition (previous staging one).

I think it is problem with submit (CLT). Because if I do submit from command line the following error is coming

Eventhough above error is coming The staging area is upadating . But Edition problem is coming.

If i Submit to the staging area using GUI instead of CLT then, it is working fine (I mean edition is creating with latest staging area). It seems problem with iwsubmit CLT. Can you tell me am i doing iwsubmit correctly using CLT.

In your submit script you have the following line:

`c:/iw-home/bin/iwsubmit -w -u $area 'submit to statging`;

You are missing an ending single quote in your comment. It should read:

`c:/iw-home/bin/iwsubmit -w -u $area 'submit to statging'`;

That's why you're getting this error:

ERROR:02006: Error locating to

and also why the submit isn't working. The CLT is working fine. This is a case of operator error.

If this is on Windows - you must use double-quotes around strings from the DOS prompt - not single-quotes.

iwsubmit .... 'a comment' - will probably fail
iwsumbit ... "a comment" - will probably succeed.

DOS doesn't tent to grok single-quotes.

However - all of this is potentially moot. You added the code I suggested to the publish script - and it doesn't look like any problems are happening there (judging by the output you posted).

How about adding similar code to your submit script?

The use of single vs. double-quotes within Perl scripts is different than from the command line. If you want to put double-quotes within a string - put the entire string within qq() - e.g.:

my $cmd = qq(this is a string "with quotes inside");

Thanks, my problem is solved after I gave Double Quotes . Now its publishing correctly with latest staging area.
