Directories with .new extension not removed from target web server.

Hi,
We are working on OD 6.1.0 with TS 6.5 SP2 on Win 2003 SP2. We are having 4 production web servers where we have OD receivers installed. On one of our web server, we found that some of the folders has .iwnew and .iwold extension and when we restarted our OD receiver service it got removed but it also deleted that particular folder with which these two extensions were attached e.g. we had "presentation" folder on our web server but instead of that folder we got "presentation.iwnew" and "presentation.iwold" and when we restarted OD receiver all the folders got removed. As folders with .iwnew and .iwold are created during transactional deployment to update any folder or files; these folders are supposed get removed once deployment is commited.
Does anybody have any idea about root cause of why folders with .iwnew extension were not removed?
I have raised support case for this and waiting for their response but it would be very much helpful if I get any pointers about root cause.

This sort of things happens when OD Receiver process dies/gets terminated during Transactional Deployment before it commits final
Clean-up Phase. You can perhaps come with the reasons yourself: Windows got stuck, Server rebooted, power Failure, "Blue Screen",
Scheduled maintenance and so on

What is the version of OD in the receiver end? Is it same as Base?

We have two different(older) versions in the base and receiver end and we face this problem quite frequently. With large number of locked(*.iwold and *iwnew) files being present on the receiver end cause frequent deployment failures. Then we have to stop OD, clean up these files and start OD to resolve the issue.
We will soon be upgrading our OD to the latest available versions.

Well, we have same version for OD base and receiver.
Actually another possible root cause suggested by Support is file sharing violation: Chances are that when you are deploying directories as a filelist deployment and any file in that directory is accessed on website then OD process can not complete clean up and we find directories with .iwnew or .iwold extension on target.
