Uploading file through a web application to Interwoven server

Hi,
I have created a web application & hosted the application in the IIS.
This web application uses COM API.
When we try to upload a file by running the application in visual studio, the file is uploaded. But when we access the same application by entering the url into the browser, & try to upload a file, it does not work.
Also, another question is for uploading a file to interwoven server do we have to upload the file to web server hosting the web application first or we can directly upload the file to interwoven.
Can any one give a step by step guidance to how we can upload a file to interwoven in a web application?
