which language are you trying to use? if you are looking to manipulate xml using perl, check the tutorial at http://< yourteamsiteserver >/iw/help/tst/pt/TeamSite__DCRparser.html which will give you an idea of how things can be handled.

Are you trying to change the DCR or use the DCR to generate another XML file which has more fields ? The latter is trivial. The first can be done with hidden fields and formapi.

Or do we not use DCRs and this is an XML->XML transformation ?

how much perl do you know ?

Is this a simple add 1 node all the time ? Use a regex. Is you need to look at the previous data, then use XMLnode to get the values and then rebuild the XML from scratch and print it out.

OK, now you talk about TPLs.

Do you want to do this with a TPL ? It sounds like you are using a template.

You probably do no tneed to use XMLnode then, just standard TPL.

Post your TPL, and what you want to insert into the final output.

Besides some questionable coding practices (which may simply be the result of seeing a snippet of code) - the question remains:

Are you trying to modify the DCR or just put something extra in the output from the PT?

If the answer to the above is "yes, I'm trying to modify the DCR" - then the next question is: Why?

If you really think you need to "add a node" to your DCR when some file doesn't exist - the place to do that would be within an inline callout script in the DCT - not in the PT.
