DCRs are basic XML

You can use any XML pm to generate a DCR, however I find it *much* easier to not use a pm at all and just build the XML in a variable and dump it out.

I assume you have a list of structured data you want to bring into TS, build a same DCR with a form, use that to write a perl script to take the structured data and dump it out.

BTW, use XML style DCRs and not IWOV style, they are easier to work with.

What's your data source? You can generate dcr xml from that data source using various transformation mechanisms and then set the extended attributes for the file. There can be multiple ways to implement this functionality. Can you elaborate more on your requirements?

But here is need to create the xml through. Is there a way you just give the Templating Type and you get a xml created?

If i hardcode the xml, any changes in future in the template will have to be taken care in the xml as well. any thoughts?

it would be new data.

i need to create a dcr through code from a different template in a different template. i have the data for some fields but not all.
the save of one dcr should create another one which would be in a different template

One *could* write a general purpose routine that would take a DCT, a data source and a mapping file that will output the DCRs. I have never tried it and am skeptical of the value.

Now your second point makes me wonder how well you have thought the usage. If you want a tool to take a bunch of data once and generate DCRs, easy. You talk as if this will happen continuously. That is a problem because Joe is busy editing DCRs and some process comes along and overwrites his changes.

You are opening a large can of worms and about to take a very big bite.
