How to dynamically update an Option array

I am using the following code to define an option array:

globalFieldImpactArray[arrayIndex] = new Option(nameValue, nameValue, false, false);

and then using setOption to populate a multi-select list.

What is the best way to update this already built option array in order to set the selection to true based on the old selected form values? How do you get individual labels from that Option array if it's not written to a dct item.

You can loop through the array and when the "value" matches your criteria you set it to true, true. I think that'll be the way to do it. Have you tried that?

That is what I was not sure about, meaning how to retrieve the value from an option array when it doesn't belong to an item. For an item, it is very simple to get option and using that object, get its value and also utilize add,remove options. But with a simply option array, those functions don't seem to apply.

The value I get is the index of the field not the label. How would I be able to get the value and the lable? Also, how would I be able to set its selection property since I am not yet writing it to the item? The objective is to form an option array with correctly selected value before writing it out using setOptions

I am a little confused when reading your first and second post, but let me try.

When you have...

for (var myValue1 in globalFieldImpactArray){
   alert(myValue1);
}

...using the for...in statement in the way you have, the variable "myValue1" gives you an index, but NOT that object. The for...in is not the same as you might be used to with Perl or other languages. So I think you want something like this:

for (var a in globalFieldImpactArray){
   alert(globalFieldImpactArray);
}

The above will give you alerts that describe the object in square brackets which is handy for debugging. If you want a property of the object, you can do something like this:

for (var a in globalFieldImpactArray){
   alert(globalFieldImpactArray.text + "     " + globalFieldImpactArray.value );
}

Let me know if this does not answer your real problem.
