perl code for reading excel sheet and generate dcrs in TeamSite

I need to write a code which read a excel sheet (containing , content records in the columns and rows) and generate the DCRs in TeamSite for each rows (present in excel sheet).
So is it possible to do this? if yes can some one please provide me the code for this requirement.

Just a few pointers you can look for :
1. There is a perl module you need to look for Spreadsheet/ParseExcel.pm. Include that in your perl script. Look for its implementation on the net.
2. Theres something called Writer.pm which can be included . This makes it easy to create XML's using some function startTag and endTag.

Also do not forget to set the EA TeamSite/Templating/DCR/Type on the XML so that the form gets rendered properly.

Many Thanks for the reply and the effort you put. But is there any other opinion like is it better idea to do this through workflow or just write a perl script for making the dcrs from available content on excel sheet form.

One more thing, is this just write a perl code to read a excel sheet and then create the respective dcr in teamSite or will go for more sophisticated way like need to write a DTD also and then need to check the excel sheet content acording to defined DTD through Perl code before making the DCRs in TeamSite.

If any one having the some code snipet also , please provide the same for better understanding.

The Perl module for reading from an Excel spreadsheet takes care of the reading part (code snippets can be found in the perldoc for the module(s))

There are any number of ways that you could generate the XML for the DCR (and, as mentioned, don't forget to use iwextattr to set the EAs on the generated DCRs). If you use a Perl module - look at the perldoc for example code; if you write it yourself from the parsed spreadsheet object, it should still be relatively easy to get it right.

You should already have defined a DCT for the DCRs - either using the Interwoven DTD for DCTs or using a custom DTD (read the manuals for more information on the latter)

You could implement the DCR generation as a one-off script, a custom menu item, or a workflow. The answer depends on what you are doing, why you are doing it, and how many times you expect to do it.

I don't think you can retain the formatting present in the excel sheets, you will be able to extract just the text part of the cell data. If this needs to done from time to time and if the documents are consistent through out and from one to another, then to retain the formatting you will have to add the formatting structure to your perl script for each block/cell, matching what is present in each row/column.
