UTF-8 -> Shift-JIS ignoring template newlines

When we set iwpt_encoding.ipl to encode certain generated/previewed templated files in Shift-JIS instead of UTF-8 or ISO, it ignores the newlines in the template and the generated file is a single line.

Unfortunately we use ASP, which relies on newlines for program structure (blegh) so the pages end up having ASP errors.

Are newlines specific to character encodings??? eh?

Is there anyway to tell iwpt_compile to not output the file as a single string? Am I missing something here?
