Customizing the New Page interface

Specifically, what I'd like to do is run a simple validation on the "name" field when creating a new page. I know there's already some validation taking place (empty, space characters, etc are rejected) but is there a way to specify exactly what constitutes a "valid" name, preferably via regex?

I've looked through the documentation and did a bit of searching here but haven't come up with a whole lot. I've looked through various bits of code in the webapps/content_center folder and have seen a few places where I could hack a solution, but I was curious to know if there's a "good" (best practice, even) way of accomplishing this kind of customization.
