Where can I see the data xml generated during the page preview. As I am using the "Externals" I was curious about the target XML used for processing by XSL.

Is this part of log file or temporary location or some SP settings?

It is not stored in a physical file anywhere. If you want to debug then in the component development screen in the bottom left corner you can see this XML. Alternatively you can log it from your External Java class. Alternatively you can dump it on the page using XSL.

If you set the logging level to DEBUG for com.interwoven.livesite you will see the XML in the log for each component generated (along with the XSL and final result of the transform.
