IWDCRInfo.getStatus() returns PENDING

When I do IWDCRInfo.getStatus() in init or within function nameHandler() where nameHandler is called from ..IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/itemname", "onItemChange", nameHandler); I get a status of PENDING & hence not able to retrieve IWDCRInfo.getOwner().
Has anyone tried this before?
