Creating a Dynamic Approval list by the files in the workflow

Hello all,

Before I start, here is the background of what I'm developing with:

TeamSite 6.7.2 SP2
WFM 1.0.1.1

Using the WFM, I'm attempting to create a list of approvers based from what was submitted in the workflow. My environment has several branches where not everyone has the ability to see let alone approve content.

I want to customize the approval list based on what was submitted. This prevents my workflow from breaking because the approver chosen does not have the rights to view the files. My issue is I'm not sure how to pull the task or workflow id from the MapDataSource instance I create within the workflow. I can pull the session id just fine and create a client, but from there I'm lost as to where next, since I cannot find a direct correlation with the client instantiation within the datasource and the workflow that created the instance of the datasource.

Does this make any sense? Smiley Happy

Well then, go ahead.

It is not that hard (I recently did something similar).

My first choice was an inline call, but there seems to be no way to get the list of files submitted in an inline (really freaking bad loss of functionality over WFT).

So I made a call server with the list of files, ran a script on the server which returned the list of approvers and built the review list manually.

Now if you are doing the same list for every branch, this is trivial. Replace the datasource with an inline call which runs on the server, it knows which branch it is running on and it can get the approvers for that branch.

That should not take more than an hour.

FYI, when you are done with that, you may consider an approverList template. I use those to add/change approvers for each branch, that becomes trivial if you can use a template to change it.

You can get the branch information in your DataSource as well and based on the branch create your approval list.

I was able to get something to work. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. I was so focused on getting a file list, I didn't realize just checking the workarea/branch access would be more effective.

This is the java code I came up with, if anyone else is interested:
