content XML after selecting DCR

When I design a component, I can preview the content xml by clicking on preview button. But at this time DCR is not selected in DCR datum. Now when I select DCR in the template, how can I check the content xml ?

Any change you make to the content XML post preview gets embedded in the component if you donot close the edit component window.
Either click on "Save" or "Save and Close" buttons on the component to add the changes in the component permanently.
