Help debugging a workflow

Greetings all!

I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to how I can debug a workflow that seems to hang? I've tried checking the log files iwjoberrors.log and iwtrace.log, but to no avail. I was surprised to note that even though the workflow was hung, iwjoberrors.log had not even been modified.

If I run the external task ipl on the command line with the jobid, taskid and workarea as params, the workflow un-hangs. I've searched the manual and this forum but I'm unable to determine what would be the next logical troubleshooting step. If anyone could suggest something, I'd appreciate it!

1, triple check the command to invoke the script.

2, what is the user you are running as ? Can you change that & see if it helps, if you are using non-OS users and try to run an external task as IWUSER you will fail.

3, put the WF in debug mode and check it for any oddities.

4, put a debug statement as the first command on the IPL (long shot) does anything ever get updated ?

I *think* Matt uses WFT and not WFM. WFM errors would be in servletd_out.log but not WFT

Indeed I do, Andy. Thank you both for your suggestions though. I will try all that you said previously Andy - this is my first-ever workflow, so I'll have to learn how to do those things first. Not a problem though - as soon as deadlines are up I can sit, relax, and read for a bit.

#2 is my most likely candidate.

If you have a tsadmin login or something like that, I would suggest making that the user that executes the external task.
