Data deploy to multiple tables/groups (optional)

Hi All,
I have a requirement where I have to deploy 1 DCR to 5 tables. All items required for 2 tables are mandatory, but for other three tables its optional. If i have 5 groups in my DD config file, I will get error when all items will not have values in it.
As I understand I cannot do it with single data deploy config file.
Environment:
TS 6.7.2
Linux
Oracle 10g
OD 6.2

Has anyone worked on similar requirement?
Pointers would be very helpful.

I haven't used DD that much, and try not to use it as much as possible since I consider it more of a tricky "black box" kind of thing that works very well for simple designs but becomes (IMO) exponentially more complicated in complex designs.

That being said, I believe that if you write the DD config correctly with multiple groups and in some groups defining columns as not-null (required) and in other groups defining essentially the same columns as nullable (optional) - that it "should work" - but you'll have to do some testing to verify it.

But someone told me Tuple Processor. Can someone give some pointers on use of Tuple processor. Will it be helpful in this use case?

Tuple will plays the important role in DD.

XML converted to Tuple then Tuple will be processed using datadeploy config to insert into DB. Tuple is just kind of Hash table to hold xml as key and value pair.

Here we can do what ever we want before Data insertion using tuple in the custom Tuple Processor class, this custom class will be loaded before data deploy starts.

Advantage
We can change the values in tuple on certain conditions
We can pass additional values to the tuple based on existing data
We can query value from DB then we can pass value to tuple for certain condition

Ex:
If some values are null then you can pass as some default values to that key to insert in to DB.

Best go through the existing sample class file, it available in your Teamsite

In my case I want to deploy certain groups optionally.
For e.g. when I am deploying 1 DCR I have to deploy only 2 groups out of 5.
But in another DCR i have to deploy 4 groups out of 5.

Can you validate, if tuples will be helpful in this scenario or not.

You might be able to handle this with filters rather than tuple preprocessors.

Thanks For your reply. I have used DD only with its very basic features. Haven't worked on Filters or Tuple processor. There is hardly anytime for R&D or even skimming thru documentation. Can you please guide me from you experience.

Has anyone used filters to handle such scenario?

Guess what - there's no time like the present for you to learn about the product for which you are apparently getting paid to support. We've given you several ideas on how to approach the issue you posted about, now it's your turn to actually do a little bit of research (it's not that hard to search through a PDF) and trial-and-error development (shouldn't take much longer than a day or two at most) to see if either of the suggestions provided (tuple preprocessors or filters [I'd recommend starting with the latter since it requires less development work]) do what you want them to do.

If, after putting an honest effort into it, you still have issues, then you can post the details of what you did, how you did it, and what happened - and then someone from here can dig further into it with/for you.

However, I believe that if you put that honest effort into it - you should be able to get it working.

I have gone thru the Chapter 6: Advanced Features of DD admin pdf. As per my understanding filters can only be used for individual fields and not the entire group.
Can some1 validate this.
Would appreciate quick help.

First you should understand the use of filter in Data deploy config file
Usage
1. Depends on input source data u can control the deployment using filter(data filter)
2. Depends on input source template type u can control the deployment using filter (DCR type filter)
3. Depends on input source template category u can control the deployment using filter(Category filter)
4. The final one is Event filter(Team site Events)

The filters only used in source not destination group(db schema).

I hope for your requirement use composite filters(field combination filter)
