Read properties file

Does it possible the component to read the properties file from resource directory?

we have a component which can read the properties inside livesite_customer.jar, and would like to move outside the jar file.

Components can have externals which are java, you can read the properties file using FileDal (from RequestContext). FileDal can give you an InputStream to files.

Assuming Livesite 3.0 and newer:

Document myExternal(RequestContext context)
{
   InputStream myInputStream = context.getFileDal()....  // get file you need here 

  // Read properties file.
  Properties properties = new Properties();
  try
  {
    properties.load(myInputStream);
  }
  catch (IOException e)
  {
    throw new RuntimeException("Unable to read file", e);
  }

  Document mydoc = DocumentHelper.newDocument();
  mydoc.addElement("myroot");

  // Build you doc here that will be part of component XML

  return mydoc;

Also understand that reading a property file may have performance implications if you do not cache the component (keep it set on "Until Published" for best results).
