Run servlet directly

I have been searching the forums and the docs. I wrote a custom servlet but I can figure out how to call the servlet directly. I know the servlet works and is accessable by TeamSite because I got it to appear in Content Center Standard. However I want to call the servlet directly from JavaScript(ie http://teamsiteserver/myservlet).

Is there any way to do this?

Any specific kind of javascript that you refer to?

As in:
- FormApi?
- or custom portal js?
- or javascript you include into a cgi- or wft-form?
- javascript-workflow-task-javascript?

What I mean is, calling any url in javascript is trivial but once called what do you do with the result?

I am using AJAX to load the contents of an XML file. I am then parsing the file to fill a list of options. I created the servlet to load the file and return it as an XML document.

I figured out my problem. I made an error in my servlet code that was causing an error to be returned to the browser. Once I fixed that error, http://teamsiteserver/iw-cc/myservlet worked to get the servlet.
