You have some choices:
remove the < item tag and replace it with an inline callout that will run a perl script that generates the proper XML for that tag (with modified path as needed)
or
you can change the callout to run something like this:
var loc = window.location;
var url = loc.protocol + '//' + loc.host;
url += '/iw-cc/command/iw.formspub.browse_for_link?';
url += 'vpath=' + vpath;
url += '&ceiling=' + ceiling;
url += '&hier_callback=opener.top.getScriptFrame().' + callback;
url += '&show_thumbnail=' + thumbnail;
url += '&filename_filter_regex=' + regex;
window.CallbackXpath = myItem;
var opener = window.open(url,'Browser','scrollbars=no,menubar=no,height=400,width=550,resizable=yes,toolbar=no,location=no,status=no');
There you can calculate the vpath and you are ready to roll
