Default Cache settings

nk300

Does default cache settings for individual web page components have any impact on the website performance, as there are different values like 1 minute to 1 day, also with values like Do not cache.

And is each component comes with default settings for cache, or is the settings just a variable to show in production/preview site

Experts please advice.

Of course yes. More cached components on a page, better the performance you'll see in Runtime. In general, you should cache each component for as long as possible -- except for truely dynamic or targeted components. IMHO, even most of the so called "dynamic" (not targeted) components (unless you have components where updates for every second counts -- i.e. stock tickers or something) should be cached even if its down to 1-minute. Again there are a lot of other factors to consider but in general even 1-minute of caching will give you far better performance than not caching at all.

On your second question: cache is only affected for a full blown LS Runtime environment. Components are NOT cached in preview mode.

HTH!
