HTML components in ts672sp1

RonaldV

Hi,

the latest livesite manual (ts_672sp1_spdev_v03_en.pdf) mentions the option to create 'HTML Components' as opposed to 'xml/xsl components'. [This options refers to creating a presentation-tpl using simple html-code and NOT the rather complex xsl-code]. On my teamsite-version (ts672Sp1@sol10) this option is not available and the rel-notes on Sp2 mention 'TeamSite version 6.7.2 Service Pack 2 does not include any new features'.

Where did this option go to?

Hello!

I am using

TeamSite 6.7.2 Service Pack 2
Interwoven SitePublisher 6.7.2.2.70044
Interwoven LiveSite 3.1.0.2.70044

And i can correctly see the "create from html" option while creating a new component.

The HTML components were added for TS672SP2:

1. Create new component
2. Select HTML
3. The top text area should have a div element only and say "Appearance" for the header, if it creates XSL wrapping HTML and says "Appearance XSL" you do not have HTML components

Also if you do Skin properties you should see "Rendering Engine" option with XSL and Direct as two options. Direct is the HTML mode.

I am almost positive it was added in TS672SP2 and render without using XSL, rather directly streamed to the page and use page tokens to add dynamic content (which is significantly faster that XSL transform).

Alex,

thank you for your answer.

So, the statement in the rn's 'TeamSite version 6.7.2 Service Pack 2 does not include any new features' is not quite correct?

'Create from html' is not the same as 'html component'.

SP2 had a lot of performance optimizations that were done (more caching, more efficient execution of components, and HTML based components). One of the issues with XSL is that it is CPU and memory intensive and when you have many dynamic XSL components the CPU requirements are non-trivial. I added the HTML components to allow sites to have many dynamic components that are not very complex (XSL gives us ability to iterate over XML, etc) while HTML components were meant to insert relatively static content with ability to pull in data from the XML and RquestContext using $MODEL and $CONTEXT tokens (which are often enough to provide personalization (use data in RequestContext), page edit specific configuration (Datum values that are part of the XML model), etc.

Sounds like 'No' to me. :-)

Actually 'Yes', it is not quite correct.
