"Broken Pipe" error when previewing files
tobias
Some of our users receive the following error when trying to preview a template page (first line is a translation from German, the rest is displayed as it appears on the screen):
Template Preview and Generation Error:
The following error occured while creating file Y:\default\main\branch\subbranch\WORKAREA\worakrea\zz_tst_userid_0_manifest:
Broken pipe
The templated file was not generated.
The error comes up after clicking on "Preview", selecting the appropriate presentation template and clicking "OK". Also it isn't really re-produceable, neither by the affected user nor by another user.
Any idea what this could mean and how I can fix it?
Tobias

I had the same issue. They had me reinstall templating, andthis corrected it.

Rococi:
Thanks for the information.
Did you have to re-install the entire TST on your server? If so what impact (other than that nobody would be able to work with it for the time of installation) does a re-installation have on the TS system?
Re-installing on the server seems odd to me, because it's only one person having this problem.
Or is there a way I can re-install TST on a client machine?
BTW, it's TST 5.5.2 on NT I'm talking about.
Update:
We found out that in our "preview" directory there existed a
zz_tst_username_0_manifest
file with a
perl.exe
process still holding on to that file. After killing this process the file was deleted and that was it. The user is now able to preview and generate TST pages.

Where is the preview directory and when you said killing the process, what did you do?

We just had that same problem. Found this post quite helpful.
We went to the Y: as the preview files were not showing up in Teamsite. Found the relevant ones and then killed the iw_perl processes in Task Manager. After that we could delete the preview files.
Preview seemed to work fine for that user after that.

This sounds like you might have a problem in one of your PTs - if its causing a perl process to run amok like that. Not sure what the best way is to track that down, but I'd suggest doing some tests to see if you can find a repeatable situation and start from there.
