Task Owner Invalid

I am having trouble assigning tasks. Here is the configurable_author_assignment.wft file:
declare_workflow(name => $job_name,
owner => $iw_user,
creator => $iw_user,
description => $job_description,
comment => "This job was created using $iw_template_file",
files => \@submit_file,
file_comments => \@file_comments);

And the browser gives me this error:

Invalid workflow:
ERROR: Could not create task Review 1
ERROR: Task owner "S-1-5-21-110444502-518546202-1412237070-17384" is not a valid user.
ERROR: 00925: No such user
ERROR:00925: No such user

Even if I change the "owner=>$iw_user setting" to "owner=>'domain\user' " (a user I know exists) I get the same error. I do see this "S-1-..." user listed in some areas under 'Modified By'. What user is this? Why is the task being owned by it rather than $iw_user?

No, command syntax is incorrect.

Ok the ID data I am getting, is a user that was removed from the windows network. But I am logged in under my account and am assigning a task to another user. Can that be removed from the list?

The above makes very little sense to anybody but you. Remove what? From what List?

No, AFAIK you can not remove an existing SID. That said, something is fishy here...

You are logged in as you and you are assigning a Task to the existing Author UID - correct?
WF Engine can not instantiate a Task "Review 1". If I were you I would've checked wft code
to see how this Task obtains the Owner - it may be for example hardcoded to the deleted User etc...

Fix that and you will not have to worry about orphaned SID and the like

No the user was not hardcoded. But the answer was more obvious. The owner of the work area was this deleted user from Win AD. So I changed the owner of the branch to me and everything is fine now.

I assumed 'owner' meant the person I was assigning the task to, when it turns out the error message was referring to the owner of the branch and workarea.

Strictly speaking, the Error message was referring to the "Review 1" Task Owner. It happened to be a WA owner simply
because of the way you've coded/configured your WF.

If I have to guess, you are using (possibly modified) "configurable_author_assignment.wft". With certain configurations
this WF Template generates Review Task(s) with "iw_areaowner" Owner. Note that the Reviewer is normally NOT the "Author"
that you assign the task to.
