Add fields dynamically to a DCR

Hi All,

We have a requirement to add the fields dynamically to a DCR.

For example we have three containers each represents a separate module, these do not exist in the DCT initially and there is drop down in the DCR which displays the three modules. If the user selects the module1 then corresponding items (grouped in a container) should be added to the DCR.

We don’t want to predefine all three modules (containers) in the DCT and use the hide and show logic based on the selected value.

Is this possible using the callout which parses the XML file and creates DCT elements and updates the DCR?

Any pointers would be appreciated.

I feel it's not possible. Because DCT can not be changed dynamically. So i'd suggest, go ahead with the option of hide-show using formAPI.

Btw, why do you think this is not the solution for you?

As Mav told its not at all feasible. Even you created in some way but you can not manage it. Form loads (New form/ Edit/ View) based on datacapture configuration(inline, DCT Items).

Always you should think about simple and smart solution it will make life easier and manageable in future.

If I proceed in your case no need to create different templates, just one template(DCT) is enough to hold all kind of DCR's. What is the need here different categorization and data type, Billing from customers?
