Deploy without Submitting?

We have a special-case requirement to be able to deploy files without submitting them to Staging. Has anyone done this? A sample wft would be great, otherwise some pointers would be greatly appreciated.

This is pretty trivial - your deployment configuration file should indicate the source area path from which to deploy - if you specify the workarea (rather than staging or an edition) - then it doesn't matter if the files were not deployed. So it's purely up to you whether you have a submittask before your externaltask for performing a deployment, after you perform the deployment, or not at all within the workflow.

What aspect of this do you not understand?

Basically it's the same as any normal workflow, but you either don't have a submit task, or you have a pre-prod deployment task before an approve/reject command.

For the deployment, use an external task to call opendeploy to deploy your files using a file based deployment. Your source would be your workarea. I do this all the time with my content. This is how my users send their content to the pre-prod server.

Below I have attached a command to perform the file based deployment.

In my example $filelist if the name of the file containing your list of files. You create this file by getting the files from the task (my @files = $task->GetFiles() Smiley Wink

and looping through them and writing to the new deployment file. In my workflow code below I make a file (named taskid.txt so they are unique) with the path to my file.

Thanks all for your help. I figured out what was throwing me - a bit of regex in my deploy script that I missed.
Got it working now.
