Edit link for DCR field absent on Component Properties screen
kgilmore
In TS/SP 7.1 on Windows 2003 Server, we have set up roles, permissions, users and TeamSite groups in such a way that we can restrict write access at the directory level for a shared workarea for users having the Author role.
However when an Author edits a component on a .page file, and the component has a DCR field, the "Edit" link to directly edit the DCR is not displayed on the Component Properties screen, even though the directory permissions for the DCR's directory give this user "Full Control" via a TeamSite group membership, and the DCR is not locked.
There is a "Copy and Edit" link for the DCR field which is a cumbersome workaround for these users, requiring them to perform a "Save As" operation and re-navigate to the directory and DCR they want to save.
For testing purposes, I created a new role that has every privilege possible except for "Permission Overrides", and assigned that role to the user on the appropriate branch. Tried the scenario again, and still no "Edit" link.
Then I gave this role "Permission Overrides", tried the scenario again, and then the "Edit" link appeared.
The problem is that "Permission Overrides" ignores any directory-level permissions we have set, basically allowing the user to edit any file in the workarea -- something we do not want.
Has anyone else seen this behavior, and do you know of any way to make the "Edit" link for a DCR field appear on the Component Properties screen without granting "Permission Overrides"?
Thanks.
