ERROR:5000013: Unable to establish connection with server

Hello there,

I upgraded our TeamSite environment from 6.5.3 to 6.7.2. The installation went pretty smooth but TeamSite doesnt come up after the upgrade. In fact, servletd is not up.

For CLTs like iwstat, iwaccessmigrate, it throws the below error message :
ERROR:5000013: Unable to establish connection with server

iwtrace.log has only the following errors :


[Wed Jun 16 15:04:41 2010] Reading users and groups...
[Wed Jun 16 15:04:41 2010] Local system: "HOSTNAME"
[Wed Jun 16 15:04:41 2010] Error reading user_databases.xml. The content of the file is ignored.
[Wed Jun 16 15:04:42 2010] Unable to load disk cache from Tue Jun 15 11:13:46 2010, revision = 0.
[Wed Jun 16 15:04:42 2010] Failed to restore users and groups from disk.

sevletd_out.log has lots of errors. Uploading it for reference.

iwutild_cmdout.log just has the below error.

ERROR:5000013: Unable to establish connection with server

i am using a domain account which is a master user, has full admin access on the server.

Is TeamSite running ? What OS ? Can you get to the Y-drive or /iwmnt ?

Check iwserver and iwtrace logs first

Thanks nipper for looking into this.

Its on Windows 2003 EE SP 1.

All process except servletd is running. Servlet engine process runs for 2 minutes and is stopped autmatically. Y:\ is not visible.

iwserver has the following error message


[Wed Jun 16 19:29:03 2010] ERROR: iwserver did not come up in 600 seconds
[Wed Jun 16 19:29:03 2010] ERROR: Please look at \iw-home\local\logs\iwtrace.log for more information

iwtrace has the same info as mentioned in my initial post.

The servletd_out.log seems to contain a lot of errors / exceptions.
I believe you can ignore the "Failed to connect to JNDI provider" error, but things like:

would seem to indicate a much more significant problem exists - perhaps the whole "toolkit" is munged.
I'd suggest opening a case with Support while you continue to plug away at it yourself.

I agree with the support idea, but the root cause is iwserver is not running

The trace log is not sure helpful the user_database should not stop TS from starting, is the backingstore good ? you may want to make a new folder, point TS to it as a backingstore and see if it will start up. Also check the event viewer.

For the errors which you have pointed out, i dont have idea on where to go look for. i tried re-installing the webapps using install_webapps.bat command and still not working.

And yes, i have a ticket open with support.

Thanks Andy for that. i didnt try creating a new store. But can confidently say that our old store was working perfectly fine on 6.5.3.

So, tried creating a new store. While restarting the service, only TSRunning file with 0 KB was generated.

Check the upgrade path in the manuals. It may have been 6.5 to 6.7.1 and not 6.5 to 6.7.2. There was a backingstore modification in 6.7.

i checked with support before doing the upgrade and they said its fine to upgrade from 6.5.3 to 6.7.2 base.

No, even when i created the new store, it is not available via Y:. So, doesnt look like a problem with upgrade to 6.7.2. As i mentioned earlier, there is just a TSRunning file created inside the new content store, F:\test_store\iw-store

I think you will need to stick with support, there is really not much here to work with.

i got this issue resolved.

Restored iwcache.xml and iwcache.bcp file and TS came up fine.

So, seems like the issue was, TS was not able to generate the user cache after the upgrade.

Once this error got resolved, i could make changes to LDAP configuration in iw.cfg and user_databases.xml to include the AD changes.

All set with this issue !!!
