Moving backing store from a Solaris server to a new Solaris server.

We are currently runing TS 6.72 and have a large backing store. If I want to move the backing store to another server can I just use rsync.

new server $> rsync -avz -e ssh :/iw-store/ /iw-stores/new-store? Are there any issues I need to look out for?

I can't speak about Solaris but in the windows world we did an XCOPY from one machine to the other. Everything worked the first time. I'm assuming you will be using the same databases so you don't need to worry about those. (?)

You must disable the backing store you are copying from or shut down TeamSite or bad things can happen.

Our backing store was a bit over 100gb with 2.5 million files. The copy took A LONG TIME (24 hours ish)

There is a good KB in support site that explains in detail how to do that. I like rsync but I am not sure how rsync would help speed up the process compared to copying the backing store using sftp etc as this is the first time you are copying backing store.

Also is this one time thing or are you going to do this in a regular basis?

Stoping the iw.server is very important prior to doing that as you will see in the KB.

You don't need to stop the iw.sever, but you do need to do a freeze of the store.
We have done an rsync of a content store before, but that froze the store without any issue. This was doing an rsync from a solaris to a linux machine. Everything went fine.
