WorkflowModeler variables

We have TS 7.0 on Windows 2003.

I'm using WorkflowModeler to create a workflow to let the user select one or more files/folders from any area (Workarea, Staging area or Edition) and deploy them. Here are a few questions:

* How can I determine the current area, short of asking the user for it? There doesn't seem to be any TS System Variable with the value of the current area. I was hoping that $IW_WORKAREA would have "area_path," but no, it has only the Workarea, if any.

* I tried to set up a Script Variable to document.getElementById("dcrEditForm").area_path.value, but no, "document" doesn't seem to be defined. Can something like that be done? Is there a way to access the "Post/Get" variables and set Global Variables with them?

* Here's another question -- how can I insure (before the workflow job starts and a task is activated) whether the use selected at least 1 file or folder? In the job instantiation screen, it would be good to show an error to remind the user to first select what to deploy.

I use code like this in the custom_instantiation.cfg

var vpath=IWDatacapture.getWorkarea();

And I hope you meant 7.1 not 7.0

Thanks for the tip, Nipper! I ended up creating 2 Config variables: CurrentArea and CurrentWorkarea. I use CurrentArea to set up an OpenDeploy variable ("SourceArea").

My workflow model wasn't always working when I set each Task's AreaVPath to the CurrentArea, though. I had to derive the CurentWorkarea from CurrentArea and set each Task's AreaVPath to CONFIGURABLE(CurrentWorkarea).

As a matter of fact, we're running TS 7.0 (without any patches or service packs, as far as I know).

Incidentally, does anyone have any comments about the following:

* Here's another question -- how can I insure (before the workflow job starts and a task is activated) whether the use selected at least 1 file or folder? In the job instantiation screen, it would be good to show an error to remind the user to first select what to deploy.

One may also want to go through the list of files to, for example, check whether any of them are already attached to another worklfow. How to do it in the Workflow Modeler world, though?
