sql statement failing

DD 7.2.1

Hi, I'm trying to run a sql statement using DD. However, there doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation on running sql statements via DD. Does anyone know where to find some good documentation on setting up a sql statement in DD? Also, does anyone know what the 'table' field is for? I have an entry table="not-used" in my DD, but that is failing.

I've never tried using a custom SQL statement in a DD config - but have you looked at the examples in the product manual?

I don't think you're supposed to wrap the statement in a CDATA tag (most of the examples do not show it - only two of them do), nor does it look like you're supposed to end it with a semi-colon.

Also - I'm not sure you can have DD execute a SQL statement without having it be part of an overall DD deployment - thus I don't think the "not-used" idea will work - but that (like most of this) is just a guess.

If all you really want to do is execute a SQL statement like you have - it would probably be a lot easier to just write a small Perl script (using Perl DBI) or Java program to do what you want rather that incurring all the overhead and complexity of DataDeploy.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the example in the manual. This SQL statement is being run prior to a much bigger DD deployment, so if it works running it in DD I'd prefer to keep everything in DD rather than creating a separate perl script that won't necessarily allow for transactional deployment.

You're talking about the one on pages 191 and 192 - it doesn't show up for me either, and selecting the invisible text and pasting it into an editor only partially works (you get a bunch of text, but it's garbled)

It appears to be visible in the OD 6.2.1 manual - see if you can retrieve the OD_621_ddadmin_V04_EN.pdf from the support site -- and report the problem with the od_71_ddadmin_v01_en.pdf to Support while you're at it.
