Adding markup to the head of a page

We are using TeamSite 7.1 on Windows Server 2008 with the latest version of LiveSite. We are looking for a way to better access the markup of the generated fixed-layout page, in order to add a stylesheet and IE conditional comments. I understand how to use `inline-css="false"` to be able to use an external stylesheet with the fixed-layouts, but we really need more control over the markup that gets generated...

any help would be appreciated.

Look at page tokens that use the page scope map (in the dev guide), they get replaced when the page is streamed out and I believe there is for injecting content into head and body section and can easily add more.
