how does the debug work in custom component

in my java component
I have the following debug statement, how could I turn on the debug, where the log file?

if (logger.isDebugEnabled()) {
 logger.debug("debug on");
}

You need to add the logger member object (look at the existing components most have a protected member called mLogger or LOGGER which you can copy into your class and update the class used increation to your custom one). Now you can write to this log and the result will go into servletd_out.log or livesite.preview.log which are both located in (if I remember correctly) Interwoven/TeamSite/local/log/iwui/ (you can search for servletd_out.log if I mistyped the path).
