Problem with iwlist usage in workflow

eddie1

Im using the iwlist command to display the list of published editions in the branch on my workflow form. The problem is that the command works fine on windows but doesnt return anything when i test it on the Solaris box. Also the command works when i run it on the command line on the Solaris box.

Following is how i use the cmd:
my $userstr = `"$iwhome/bin/iwlist" /default/main/scb2bex_xavor/EDITION`;
where:
/default/main/scb2bex_xavor is the branch vpath

This should return a string containing the editions in $userstr.

thanks in advance for your help

There have been problems found with the handling of stdin/stdout within workflow externaltask scripts - though I thought this was only on Windows and not on Solaris.

I don't have time right now to see if I can replicate your problem within workflows on solaris right now, so ...

The general work-around is to redirect your output to a file and then read the data back from that file.

i.e.

my $tmpfile = "/tmp/$$";
my $userstr = "";

`$iwhome/bin/iwlist /default/main/scb2bex_xavor/EDITION > $tmpfile`;
if (open(IN, "<$tmpfile")){
   local $/ = undef;
   $userstr = ;
   close(IN);
}
else {
   #error opening file
}

or something like that.
